With Kampman and Harris out, the offense needs to rise to the occasion

November 24, 2009 By: LMG Category: Green Bay Packers Comments Off

(By Rory Lee - PC Staff) - Last week, after the Packers’ suffocating defensive performance against the Cowboys, I suggested that we might be witnessing a shift in this team’s core strength:  that is, although the Packers have been an offensive-oriented team for the last decade, their defense might slowly be becoming the dominating unit.  All this was said cautiously, however, and I made sure to include the caveat that it was too soon to tell, at least definitively, which unit was better:  after all, the offense has many weapons, two of whom—Jermichael Finley and Jordy Nelson—just returned from injury.  Regardless, I felt relatively safe proclaiming that we were starting to see some much needed balance in Packerland:  both the offense and defense are capable of taking over a given game.
Last week I also said that “it’s amazing what a difference a week makes” and that “I just hope I don’t find myself saying that next week.”Well, here we are, a week later, and I’m saying it:  what a difference a week makes.

Game Preview: 10 Things to Watch for in Preseason Game #1

August 14, 2009 By: shockzilla Category: Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers Comments Off

(by Michael Smith - PackerChatters Staff) - The Packers open the preseason against the Cleveland Browns at legendary Lambeau Field on Saturday night. Hopefully, if you have been reading my articles, you can tell that football and I have a very unhealthy relationship. Some would even call me “sick”. Anyway, due to my problems I will be recording the first pre-season game and breaking down the film for a little Monday morning analysis on packerchatters. However, if you aren’t a football deviant like me here are 10 things to watch even when all the starters are on the sidelines.

Packer Notes:
Packers.com posted Mike McCarthy’s press conference transcript from today and he commented on RB Ryan Grant.
“I think Ryan has had a very solid camp. It’s really our first time going through a full camp with Ryan. We acquired him the first year after training camp, and then last year obviously he had the hamstring injury. We get better every day.
I talk about the philosophy to the offense, you…

Camp observations from day 1….

August 03, 2009 By: shockzilla Category: Green Bay Packers Comments Off

(PackerChatters Newswire – Dan Kowalsky) – *The new Ray Nitschke Field is gorgeous. It has perfect sight lines and is close to the action, not to mention being styled perfectly after Lambeau Field with the red brick and wrought iron gates. The only negative is during position drills where you used to be able to roam up and down Oneida to different parts of the field and watch the different groups. It was packed in so tight yesterday that it was impossible to leave your seat. I would expect that under more regular circumstances, there will be more open space to roam during a practice.

Free Agency, Cap Money, And The CBA…What Can the Packers Afford?

February 26, 2009 By: shockzilla Category: Green Bay Packers Comments Off

With all the rumors and speculation surrounding free agency next week, I was really curious as to where we stood on the salary cap going into this free agency period. There seems to be a ton of conflicting information regarding exactly where we stand. Part of the problem is that the information is pretty dynamic and changes from moment to moment. How much money each team has is impacted every time they cut a player, and the amount of cap space each team has is influenced heavily by how many of their own free agents a particular team has to worry about. So the actual situation is pretty clouded.
