Early Mock Draft … And the pick is …
( JP Correia) 1) St. Louis - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska - Bar none the best player in the draft. Suh is the next Richard Seymour and will wreck havoc for the next decade in St Louis. Suh is the absolute complete package with unbelievable size, strength, athleticism, relentlessness, character…everything. There’s nothing to not like about Suh. He’s going to be a big time player.
(J.P. Correia) Watching the Saints win the Super Bowl in Dolph….err….Land Sh….err….Sun Life Stadium, was actually enjoyable. I think I speak for everyone when I say I was happy to see the city of New Orleans get that victory. And yes, while it was somewhat painful to see Drew Brees hoist that Super Bowl trophy in our house…coulda, shoulda, woulda… that was not what I was thinking about today. What will it take for us to get to that pinacle? Is year 3 the year we make the big leap?
The Bills reversed recent late game failures by scoring 24 fourth quarter points in a resounding 31-14 win over Miami. Fred Jackson scored two touchdowns in the final quarter as he ran his first in from the three to tie the game. Rian Lindell hit a career long 56 yard field goal to give the Bills the lead. Miami’s last three possessions would end an interceptions. The Bills went for the knockout punch after the first of those picks. Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Terrell Owens for a 51 yard score to put the game away. Jackson’s second touchdown run put the exclamation point on the victory. Fitzpatrick had a 31 yard touchdown run to tie the game in the 2nd quarter.
In all honesty, I don’t see the Bills landing any of their top candidates – there is simply too much competition and too many potentially better opportunities for those in high demand. The challenge will become finding one of the second tier candidates who will be a fit and make the right football decisions to start to get Buffalo back on track.
(By Rich Rodriguez) There was a little bit more dazzle to this one. The Dolphins pulled out a few old tricks to help win against the Panthers. Literally. The Dolphins ran the same 4 Wildcat plays they ran all of last year, including the double reverse QB pass (I honestly don’t even know what to call it) from Pennington to Cobbs. Additionally, the tone was set by the Dolphins offensive line early. The Dolphins were able to gash the Panthers defensive front seven using Ronnie Brown, and later Ricky Williams, to run the rock against Carolina. A big part of that was Donald Thomas’s ability to pull. It now appears (though things can change quickly), that Thomas is winning the competition at right guard. Though it has been nice to see Murphy show considerable improvement, which may lead to quality depth, Thomas is taking the job by the horns.
1 Detroit Matthew Stafford QB Georgia 6/2 225 4.81
Stafford is a strong arm QB who often relies to much on his physical abilities. But the talent is there to be developed. He can certainly launch the deep ball to Calvin Johnson. The Lions cannot really afford to come out of this draft without a QB.
For those of us Dolphin Diehards old enough to remember Laugh-In, there was an award that was given, and it was kind of like a reverse-Espy. You had to do something boneheaded to ‘win’ it, and the ‘trophy’ was a golden hand with a single finger raised. Of course, it wasn’t the ‘bird’ finger (especially with the censorship of the late 60’s), but that was the intent. It was the dreaded Fickle Finger of Fate.
